Detox Diary: Days 3-9

27 07 2008

No, I didn’t forget about you, stop my detox or anything like that. I decided that I didn’t want to post every day, since that would be really daunting, and I’m sure you don’t want to read a blog with very little progress.

So let’s recap, shall we. Days 1-3 saw little to no change in my daily bodily routine or functions. I just merrily drank my tea and excessive amounts of water and was great. However, at about day 4, I started noticing a big change. The laxative tea started to kick in, and I was using the bathroom a lot more (just like the Goodness Me! employee said). I won’t gross you out with details, don’t worry.

Days 5 until now I have seen the most progress. The detox and lax teas are really working, and working really well. I have developed a little system of where I drink my detox tea after breakfast and lunch so I can move the food through and out of my system. That works because it moves out of my system right after. I have two teas after lunch, and none after dinner because I drink the lax before bed. I’m finding that after every meal, I can easily get rid of what I just ate (except for lunch, but I think that’s just anxiety of using the work toilets, and thus, another blog in itself).

It has pretty much become clockwork: eat, tea, bathroom, with a dash of a lot of water, and that’s perfectly fine by me. Only once I have I woken up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom, so that aspect of the detox hasn’t been invasive to my life.

Yesterday I weighed myself, just to see if I was making any kind of difference, and I lost a whole 5 lbs. I’m not going to jump to conclusions, because I’m sure it was just water weight and the fact that I’m passing food so quickly.

I’m pretty happy so far with how it is working. I have found that I am less bloated and I haven’t been taking my medication either! I also have stopped chewing gum, and being more careful when I eat so I don’t bring in a lot of air that would result in unwanted gas and bloating. So far, so good. I have been getting headaches, but I have restrained myself from taking any medication for those, that way, I can control what I’m putting into my body a lot better, and not medicate every little problem I have.

Hey Rachel,
that’s awesomet that this is working so well for you. Back in our PR days I tried a cleanse and lasted a whole 4 days. Then I got really nautious and it was not a good thing. The one I was on was a meal plan involving copious amounts of soup, fruits and vegetables. Being the “carb whore” that I am, I think my body went into shock from the lack of carbohydrates…
I was also listening to 102.1 The Edge and I heard an ad for Evercleanse. It looks pretty decent, and I am considering trying it. It’s kind of gross to think about what is trapped inside our bodies, what has accumulated over the years.
Definitely something to think about, if onyl for the health benefits it claims to provide.
How are you by the way?? Haven’t seen ya in, like, forever!

Whoa! Good job with the cleanse, but I was under the impression that losing weight through taking laxatives was not a good idea.

Henna,

I don’t think I actually lost any weight, I just think it was everything from my intestines coming out. I’m still pretty doughy around the middle, but I did notice that my stomach doesn’t look as bloated like it did before I started.

Hi Rachel,
I just found your blog today as I was checking out my fellow PodCamp Montreal registrants. Congratulations on completing your detox. I did one last year and it did a world of difference for me. Except I didn’t lose any weight like I had wanted to :( I had a lot more energy, didn’t get bloated when I ate, and just felt better.

Hi, Daniele,

What type of detox did you try? I was told that taking the herbal laxative would aid the detox and make it more “complete.”

Side note: I’m so stoked for Montreal :)

The best thing I ever did for my health was getting a colon cleanse. I was skeptical at first like most people are, but I felt like a new person afterwards. I have a lot more motivation now to continue on with a healthy lifestyle and proper nutrition.
