Toronto, Toronto

When living in a new place, you tend to notice a lot of things you normally wouldn’t when getting and moving around your hometown. So I’ve decided that I’m going to blog once a week about things I like, and things I don’t like about my temporary home, Toronto, Ontario.

Things I Like

Starbucks on pretty much every corner. I have been noticing that since arriving, I have been consuming a lot of Starbucks coffee and related drinks, and here’s why. There is a Starbucks half a block away from my internship office, and it literally takes less than two minutes to walk there. The same people are there everyday, and soon they are going to know my order off by heart (Grande Soy Caramel Macchiato). Heck, today I spiced things up a bit and ordered a Grande Soy Iced Caramel Macchiato, and the geeky man server who is always there when I go, gave my drink props and then continued to awkwardly flirt with me. I guess that could be added to things I like, maybe? (Sarcasm; learn it, love it)

Things I Don’t Like

Slowly moving people on the subway during rush hour. I leave my place at 8:45 (sometimes earlier) during the week, and according to my aunts, this isn’t rush hour; but it is. I get on the streetcar outside my building and merrily make my way to the subway station. And so it begins. People, it doesn’t matter how young or old, are highly guilty of this. Slow walkers. I hate, hate, HATE when people move so slowly that they cause people jams up in the stairwells. There is a reason why it is called “rush hour,” yet commuters still choose to hold everyone up. I have been tempted to shove slow stair descenders and ascenders out of the way, but I don’t think that they, or the TTC police would like me too much.

So there is a little sample of my Toronto likes and dislikes for the week. Stay tuned for next week, when I’m sure I will have something else to complain about and commend.

It’s always interesting when someone from outside your hometown comes to make it their own… we had guests from Calgary this weekend, and they couldn’t get over how big Toronto was… We were driving around in the suburbs towards the city and they said “… so is this Toronto yet?” and my sister and I could only say “..not yet.”

Oh, and they don’t seem to have outdoor shopping like we have in Yorkville. Put that on your list of likes.

Yeah I had to change the look because I tried to add Widgets and in doing so, the Widget deleted my blogroll and websites, and I couldn’t remove the Widget.

Word on the street is that I have to get in touch with tech support and they have to fix it, but I don’t want to go through the trouble.

When I first moved to the big city, it was a real eye opener, not only do I enjoy noticing those little things that make life special, I also look for that unique specialness in people, so it tends to mean I have an eclectic group of friends. Ta for reminding me of the beauty in the world around me
