George Michael Was Wrong

“Sometimes the clothes do not make the man.” Hardly. Sometimes the clothes do make the man.

I think that this post will hit home with a lot of people. Over the past few days I have been thinking a lot about fashion, not just any kind of fashion, men’s fashion to be exact.

In my opinion, there is nothing sexier than a man in a suit; you hear that men of the PR program, nothing. I can’t put my finger on what drives us women to go insane at the sight of a well-dressed man, but I can say that the feeling is pretty overwhelming.

To go along with men in great suits comes men in great ties. I think ties are what make or break an outfit. I’m not one for boring, run-of-the-mill ties, sad shades or even too much pattern; I need excitement in my men (and their ties). Silly gimmick ties just don’t cut it in the business world and loud colours burn everyone’s retinas, so just don’t buy them. There is a fine line between being classy with a great eye for fashion and just trying too hard to impress people who will just be unimpressed with your skull and crossbones tie.

I thought that I would compile of photo list of men I think are excellent dressers (or at least have really great stylists).

Morrissey: Excellent choice of tie and pocket square, pink is definitely your colour. And might I add, the pinstripes are to die for.

Ewan: Bow-tie and kilt = fabulous ensemble. You are the reason why I love Scottish men. I wonder what’s under that kilt…

Daniel: The vest and dark tie are perfection and you absolutely know how to rock those dark jeans. The shirt brings out your stunning eyes and you give new meaning to business on the top, casual on the bottom.

Diddy or Puffy or is it P.Diddy? Anyway, Sean Combs: The suit is fab, I’m feeling the sheen, but you got a little sloppy with the pocket square. Perhaps Farnsworth Bentley could double check the little things so we don’t have any more mishaps like this in the future.

Brandon: I too am questioning your tie selection. You almost hit a homer with the shirt and vest combo, but the tie is a bit much. Better luck next time, sweetie.

I would have to agree with you. Nothing beats a well dressed man.

As much as we all dont wanna say it, looks really do mean something. How you are dressed, how your hair looks, the way you wear your make up can all affect how you are perceived in any social situation… your appearance can be more important than your resume. It is very hard to get over a bad first impression. As future PR professionals we should all be very aware of this.

George Michael wasn’t technically wrong (because I’m not-so-secretly in love with him).

He’s talking more about the exception to the rule. I agree, clothes DO make the man… but if a man is dressed to the nines, if he’s got nothing between his ears, no respect, no class… it doesn’t mean anything that he’s dressed to kill.

Now I have to go and listen to some George Michael :D Thanks :)

Ugh Brandon, what have you done? That icky semi smile on his face doesn’t help either.
